View of Wilfred Thesiger's sailing companions aboard a dhow (sailboat) in the Abu Dhabi islands. A number of men and boys rest on the deck of a sailing boat. At the centre a man stands at the stern of the boat, leaning on the high bars of the boat's frame. Behind him, a boy sits on top of the frame, looking out into the distance. In the foreground at the left, a young boy wears a large check patterned headscarf. On the right a man sits next to an array of rigging. More men rest on the deck of the boat, covered with cloths as a protection from the strong sun. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's week and a half long sailing trip around the Abu Dhabi Islands with Sheikh Hazaa bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan Al Nahyan and their retainers in March 1948.
