View of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party at a palm grove in Liwa oasis. Salim bin Ghabaisha, a tribesman of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin, stands in the centre foreground, facing towards the right where a large pile of camping gear sits in the sand. Behind him three of Wilfred Thesiger's Rashid Bedouin companions mill among a few couched camels, preparing to load the gear onto the camels. In the far background date palms cultivated by Bani Yas villagers grow scattered across the sand. In the far distance beyond softly rolling dunes rise above the grove and stretch along the horizon. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
