View of two members of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party at a salt flat in Al Batin sands. Musallim bin Al Kamam, a sheikh of the Musaifar lineage of Rashid Bedouin, stands in the centre of a camp beside a couched camel. In the foreground piles of gear and blankets lie in the sand in front of him. On the left another of Wilfred Thesiger's Rashid Bedouin travelling companions stands in the shade cast by one of two standing camels. Behind them a vast empty salt flat dotted with scattered salt bushes sits below a high, sheer-sided dune on the left. In the far distance beyond the flat low dunes sit along the horizon. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.
