Standing portrait of a Rashid Bedouin man, a member of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party, on a dune overlooking a salt flat in Liwa oasis. Footprints in the sand lead towards a man a standing on the slope of a dune. He is wearing a wraparound skirt and a ghutra (headscarf) and looks into the far distance. In the distance beyond large dunes dotted with a few tufts of qassis (sedge) sit high above a far salt flat. In the distance a few palms and bushes grow on the far edge of the salt flat, below sheer sided dunes. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.
Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
