View of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party descending a dune in the Al Batin sands, near Liwa oasis, in the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali). In the foreground men from Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party, tribesmen of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin, lead their camels down a dune face. One man leads his camels down on foot, while the rest ride. The group is heading towards a salt flat (sabkha) below that is dotted with sparse vegetation. Beyond distant dune massifs with deeply ridged sides sit along the edge of the flat.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
