View of Muhammad bin Kalut and Salim bin Kabina, members of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party, riding across a sand flat in Al Batin sands during their journey across the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali) from Al Dhafra sands to Liwa oasis. The two men are half-siblings by their father, and are tribesmen of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin. Muhammad bin Kalut (left) kneels on his camel. Salim bin Kabina (centre) rides his camel alongside his brother. Salim bin Kabina sits in his saddle with his legs forward. His camel is followed by a baggage camel. The sand they are crossing is bare and marked with small wave patterns. In the background a salt flat (sabkha) sparsely dotted with vegetation covers the far plain. In the further distance beyond the salt flat it is a low ridge of dunes.
