Description

Distant view of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party at a well in Al Batin sands during their journey across the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali) from Al Dhafra sands to Liwa oasis. Three of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling companions, tribesmen of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin, are in the process of digging out a well. One man is leaning out of the well, pouring a bucket of dirty water into the sand. Another man stands beside him in the well, holding the bucket rope in his hands. A third man squats at the edge of the well next to a number camels which are waiting for water. In the foreground the party's supplies are spread out across the sand.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
