Description
Distant view of a boom, a large double masted dhow (sailboat) built in Kuwait, in the Persian Gulf near Bahrain. A single sail files from the main mast as the boom sails into the far right distance. The ocean surrounding the boom is wavy but without swells, while above thin wispy clouds streak across the sky. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's May 18-28, 1948 journey by dhow from Dubai to Bahrain Island.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
