View of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party riding across downs in Al Batin sands during their journey across the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali) from Al Dhafra sands to Liwa oasis. Three members of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party, tribesmen of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin, ride camels through an expanse of rolling sand dotted with sparse vegetation. Each man is followed by one or two baggage camels. In the left foreground a large dead bush pokes out of the sand. At the right a large high dune borders the expanse of sand, and in the distance more ridged dunes mark the horizon.
