Description
Portrait of a Japanese man named Fukuzawa Yukichi, a samurai and officer on the 1862 Takenouchi mission to Europe, employed as an interpreter of Dutch and English. He is pictured wearing traditional dress of kimono and is carrying a wakizashi (short sword).
