Description

View of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's hunting party in camp in the Al Khatam sands near Al Ain. In the central foreground a peregrine falcon perches on a carved wooden wakir (block) next to a couched thoroughbred Omani camel. Behind them two of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's retainers walk past another couched camel, while behind them a third member of the party bends over in the background. In the left background a saluki stands in the sand. In the distance beyond scattered clumps of vegetation grow across the sands. This image was taken between December 20, 1948, and January 27, 1949, during which time Wilfred Thesiger stayed with Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in Al Ain and joined him on a number of hunting excursions.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
