Description

Standing full length portrait of an Arab falconer, a member of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's hunting party, holding a peregrine falcon in the Al Khatam sands near Al Ain. In the foreground falconer wearing a light coloured thobe (long shirt) topped with a cartridge belt stands in front of a camel couched in a patch of bare sand. The man holds a large peregrine falcon on a mangalah (cuff) on his hand. The falcon, blinded with a leather hood, perches on the mangalah near to the falconer, its head facing looking down. In the distance behind him tufts of qassis (sedge) and other vegetation grow on a flat expanse of sand sitting below a sky dotted with scattered clouds.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
