Description

View of a group of Arab men racing camels near Al Muwaiji Fort in Al Ain. In the foreground a line of car tracks crosses the near ground. Behind a large number of men race their camels across a vast rocky plain from the near left to the far right distance. At the far left one man holds his camel stick high aloft, while ahead of him large numbers of riders gallop ahead. In the far background a tree and scattered clumps of vegetation grow on the vast plain, which stretches uninterrupted into the far horizon. This image was taken between December 20, 1948, and January 27, 1949, during which time Wilfred Thesiger stayed with Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in Al Ain and joined him on a number of hunting excursions.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
