Description

Full length profile portrait of an Arab man, one of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's falconers, carrying a falcon in the sands surrounding Al Ain. The man stands facing towards the right. He is carrying a wakir (block) in his right hand, and a hooded passage peregrine falcon on a mangalah (cuff) on his left hand. He also carries a rifle on his left shoulder, into which a tuft of feathers has been stuffed into its barrel, in order to prevent sand jamming the mechanism. The man wears a ghutra (headscarf) and a plain thobe (shirt) topped with a cartridge belt. Behind him a vast expanse of flat sand continues from the foreground to jagged mountains in the far distance.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
