Description
View of two-storey buildings at San Juan pueblo, located on the west bank of the Rio Grande river, about forty miles south of Taos. According to James Stevenson's original note for this photograph (prepared circa 1885), the 'San Juan people belong to the same linguistic family with the Taosans. Their industries, habits, customs and religious rites are similar to those of Taos. They are, perhaps more advanced in civilized arts than the people of Taos, for, unlike the latter, they manufacture pottery for their own use, and are well supplied with stone implements.'

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
