Description
View of a Hopi man, sitting on the ground in front of a vertical loom, weaving a sacred blanket. According to James Stevenson's original note for this photograph (prepared circa 1885), '[t]his class of weaving is done exclusively by the men and the work of preparing sacred blankets is always conducted in an estufa. The [Hopi] sacred blanket is quite different from that made by the Navajoes. The body of it is always white with the borders embroidered.'

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
