Description

View of sailors changing the sail on a dhow (sailboat) travelling through the Persian Gulf from Dubai to Bahrain Island. Three sailors perch on a wooden yard high above the deck, untying a sail from the yard. In the central foreground, one man stands on the deck in front of the sail, tugging at a sail rope attached to the yard. Behind them the dhow's mast rises high above them. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's May 18-28, 1948 journey by dhow from Dubai to Bahrain Island.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
