Description
Seated portrait of two young boys of the Al Nahyan family sitting in the sand in Al Ain. The two boys kneel next to each other in the sand, each holding a rifle. The boy on the left wears a khanjar (dagger) on a belt over his thobe (long shirt) and a headscarf (ghutra). The young boy on the right, wearing a thick agal (head rope) over his ghutra, may be Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan. In the background the sand is bare of vegetation, and in the far distance there is a line of trees. This image was taken during April 6-30, 1948, when Wilfred Thesiger stayed at Al Muwaiji fort in Al Ain as a guest of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
